About Us

Cayuse Shop’s beginning

The Cayuse Shop is a family owned and operated equestrian business that was established in 1989 in Sauk City, Wisconsin.  It was established by Sandy Lochner when see realized a need for a quality tack shop in the Midwest. Being an equestrian herself she found it difficult to find the products she needed and thus started a tack shop in the basement of the family owned ACE Hardware.  The Cayuse Shop began as ACE’S Cayuse Shop but later was able to stand on its own as Cayuse Shop. In the last 20 years the Cayuse Shop has grown and is the premier tack shop for all your western and English needs. Stocking a full inventory in western and English saddles, western and English apparel, western and English tack, hats, boots, helmets, belts and everything else an equestrian needs. Many wonder what a “Cayuse” is and how the store got its name. A “cayuse” is a small native rang horse so the store was called Cayuse Shop to reference “horse” shop.
